Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. A vibrant and historically rich city, Kathmandu boasts the most amounts of temples, palaces and historical relics in the country, therefore, every tourist visit the city during their trip to Nepal.

The legend has it, a famed meditation deity, Manjushree, brought the city to life by making it habitable by cutting down the gorge and letting the water flow out of the enclosed valley. Before he arrived, Kathmandu was supposedly under the water!

The tour of Kathmandu city offers an overview on the city’s history, culture and lifestyle. The history of the city goes back millennia. Over the time, it has been occupied, ransacked, rebuilt and ruled by many different kingdoms and clans. Newars are the native tribes of Kathmandu. They are one of the earliest residents of the city. Over the time, they have created their own culture, lifestyle, traditions and art, which you can visibly see while touring Kathmandu.

Most of the sites you visit will be religious or cultural sites, depicting Hinduism or Buddhism. You can entirely relish local cuisines during the trip, such as; Newari, Thakali and Nepali, or your own choice of international cuisines.

It also offers a rare opportunity of seeing Mount Everest. A mountain flight from Kathmandu will take you through the mountains and towards the Everest. You can get a close glimpse of the peak and return back to Kathmandu.

Kathmandu city is a part of the larger Kathmandu valley. Along with Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Kirtipu;, it makes a grand city. It was inscribed in UNSECO Heritage Site in 2006. A popular hub among the incoming tourists since the ages, it has attracted the flow of Hippies during the 70s. Today, Jhonche and Thamel are the popular places in Kathmandu which still resemble the milieu of Hippie generation.

Testimonials

The Kathmandu in February can still be cold. I had to carry double layers of clothing. You helped me find a short trip to spend a quality time in Nepal. Few days on the road and a holy tour of Muktinath temple was gold! The entire trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara to Jomsom was amazing. Once you get off the plane you jump into a jeep and the whole bandwagon begins.
I found Muktinath to be tranquilizing. The old temple, countless stone taps, pilgrims bathing in the cold water was truly inspiring. I’d love to go on a longer trip with you guys the next time I visit Nepal. ~Sarah Thorpe (Brisbane, Australia)
