The Sherpa is one of the indigenous tribes of Nepal. Based mostly on the eastern Himalaya section, they own lifestyle and culture only endemic to the Everest region. Most popularly used for a climbing guide, Sherpa is a social identity but misnomer. They migrated from Tibet to Nepal in 14th century.

In the Tibetan language, Shar Pa means “people who live in the east,” and over time this descriptive term has come to identify the Sherpa community. They account for a meager population of est. 155,000 – 200,000 of Nepal, however, being one of the most recognized clans, they have established themselves as an important part of the society. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa (One of the first to climb the Everest), Pasang Lhamu Sherpa (First Nepalese female climber) and Apa Sherpa (Most Everest ascents) are the most renowned Sherpas in the world.

The Sherpa’s trail explores the greater civilization of the Everest (Khumbu) region, along with a short trek to Annapurna.

The trek begins with a short trek to Annapurna, one of the most beautiful and popular trekking trails in Nepal. You will embark on a brief journey towards the Annapurna Base Camp trail. It will allow you to trek up to Ghandruk village and return to Pokhara. After completing the first leg, you return back to Kathmandu and embark on your trek to the Everest. The Everest Base Camp trek follows a usual route. Here, you’ll get to witness the lifestyle, culture, cuisines and traditions of the greater Sherpa people first-hand.

Testimonials

Everest trek proved to be a challenge for me. I never had trekked to such great height before, however, the proper acclimatization and sound health helped me reach the base camp at no time.

Thanks to the team of Caravan Outdoors, specially to Hom Rana, for making the trip successful. The tea-houses were clean and standard, likewise the hotel in Kathmandu. Fabulous trip and well organized overall. ~Rob Ellington (NSW, Australia)
