Lhasa, also known as the Forbidden City, is the center of Tibet. A former place of Dalai Lama and the highest official seat was once barred from the foreigners. Today, it is a popular tourist getaway in the entire Tibet. Situated above 3,000 meters, Lhasa and the surrounding places are entirely semi-arid. It includes almost every tourist destination inside the city, namely; Potala Palace, Norbulingka, Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery and Barkhar Market.
This tour is a complete 3 Days trip inside the Lhasa city. You get to explore every historical and religious destination. Witnessing the ethnic lifestyle and culture of the Tibetans can be quite an overwhelming experience for the foreigners. You fly into Lhasa via Kathmandu, where you can get a Visa/Permit to enter Tibet. The tour remains inside the Lhasa. After the completion of tour, you can fly out to Kathmandu and depart home.
The detailed exploration of Lhasa came from the adventurer Heinrich Harrer and his travelogue “7 Years in Tibet.” Heinrich, along with his friend, entered Lhasa in a disguise. He was later instated as the tutor of the 14th Dalai Lama.
Potala Palace is the major tourist site in Lhasa. The most part of the complex is open for public viewing, except the residence, study hall and few other chambers. You should consider starting the Potala Palace tour early in the morning to avoid hassle during the day when the influx of tourists is high.
An overland tour doesn’t require any physical or mental exertion, therefore, this trip is basically easier and can be done by anyone.

The Kathmandu in February can still be cold. I had to carry double layers of clothing. You helped me find a short trip to spend a quality time in Nepal. Few days on the road and a holy tour of Muktinath temple was gold! The entire trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara to Jomsom was amazing. Once you get off the plane you jump into a jeep and the whole bandwagon begins.
I found Muktinath to be tranquilizing. The old temple, countless stone taps, pilgrims bathing in the cold water was truly inspiring. I’d love to go on a longer trip with you guys the next time I visit Nepal. ~Sarah Thorpe (Brisbane, Australia)
