Gokyo is a small Sherpa village located at the foot of Gokyo Ri and on the banks of Dudh Pokhari (Gokyo Cho). Everest via Gokyo valley accounts for one of the best off-beat treks in the Everest region and offers some peaceful yet great time away from the crowd on the usual trail to the base camp.
It is famous for its highest fresh water lakes, located at the sheer altitude of 4,700 m – 5,000 m. These lakes also serve as the religious site for Hindus and Buddhists alike as well.
Everest via gokyo trek begins at Lukla, a small airport town in Khumbu. The trail ascends to Namche Bazaar through Phakding and turns leftwards to Phortse village. You will get to spend almost 3 days exploring the Gokyo village and the surrounding, followed by a short hike to Gokyo Ri. From here, the trail reconnects to the usual trail at Gorakshep and move towards Everest Base Camp. A day tour is enough to see around the base camp and return to Gorakshep to prepare for next hike to the Kala Patthar. Kala Patthar is the only location above 5,000 meters which offers a close glimpse of the Mount Everest. Gokyo village and Sagarmatha National Park are the major highlights of the trek.
Poses difficulty as the terrain, temperature and altitude may differ along the trail. Max. altitude may reach over 5000 m and the hike requires over 6 hours a day.
Comfortable tourist-class accommodations with character; mix of public and private transport. Star Standard meals at Kathmandu!

Everest trek proved to be a challenge for me. I never had trekked to such great height before, however, the proper acclimatization and sound health helped me reach the base camp at no time.
Thanks to the team of Caravan Outdoors, specially to Hom Rana, for making the trip successful. The tea-houses were clean and standard, likewise the hotel in Kathmandu. Fabulous trip and well organized overall. ~Rob Ellington (NSW, Australia)
