Everest High Passes Trek is the most challenging trek in Nepal. A comparatively lengthier trek, you will be required to map the vast expanse and cross 3 individual high passes over 5,000 m in height. Kongma La (5,535 m), Renjo La (5,360 m), and Cho La (5,368 m) are the 3 high passes in Everest region.

  • The first leg of the trek begins at Lukla, a small airport town in Khumbu. The trail ascends up towards Renjo La and Gokyo valley.
  • The second leg of the trek passes through Cho La Pass, and towards the Everest Base Camp. You can hike up the Kala Patthar as well.
  • The third leg takes you towards the Kongma La Pass and concedes at Lukla.

Everest High Passes Trek is suited for experienced trekkers. Gokyo village and Sagarmatha National Park are the major highlights of the trek. Comparatively lengthier than other Everest trails, the trek to Everest High Passes can be really challenging at times. To ensure the safety and success of the trip, you will be required to acclimatize en route.

Testimonials

I completed the Everest base camp three passes trek in March-April. It was my third time trekking in Nepal solo, and first time with Caravan Outdoors. It has been a great experience. My guide Khem and porter Dhurba have been excellent companions during the trek.

Caravan has made things really easy from the very beginning, not only during the trek but also during my staying in Kathmandu. I am really grateful for this awesome experience. ~Andreu Balius (Spain)

  1. Fly to Lukla & Trek to Phakding Lukla is the gateway to Everest Base Camp. After a scenic half an hour flight to Lukla Airport, the journey will begin. The first day of the trek will be more like a warm up. It will take you to Phakding village, just above Lukla. You can spend the rest of the day enjoying the local scenery.
  2. Trek to Namche Bazaar The trek will ascend up to the Dudh Koshi Valley. After a few hours of hike, you will arrive at entrance of Sagarmatha National Park in Monjo. The next and the final stop will be at Namche Bazaar. Namche is the highlight of the trek. The village bustling with people and lodges feels more like a city.
  3. Acclimatization Day Higher the altitude, thinner the air! You need to gain altitude slowly and steadily so that we get enough time to acclimatize en route. Today, you hike to Syangboche village, just above Namche and return back to Namche to spend the rest of the day.
  4. Trek to Thame You will leave for Thame from Namche Bazaar. The trail leads to the old and smaller village called Thamo. After a brief stop, the trek will continue till Thame. You can have lunch and spend time exploring the village.
  5. Trek to Lumde The day begins with an easy walk to Marlung; through the Bhote Koshi River. After a brief stop, you can continue for Lumde. The trail separates from the usual route to the base camp and leads towards the Gokyo valley. You won’t see any Sherpa village because Thame is the last village on the route.
  6. Trek to Gokyo via Renjo La Pass The trail leads uphill for a while and converges into a hard climb towards the top of the Renjo La Pass. You can get the great views of Everest with Nuptse from the top. The trail descends towards the Gokyo lake or Dudh Pokhari.
  7. Trek to Thagnak This is an easy trail, however, you must start trekking early to help get through the Ngozumpa Glacier. Once you get in to the Thagnak, it’s better to climb up the small elevated hill for acclimatization.
  8. Trek to Dzongla via Cho La Pass Cho La Pass is one of the highest passes in the world. Along with two other passes, it makes for the Everest 3 Passes. On the other side of the pass, the village of Dragnak awaits you. After an hour or two of trekking through the frozen lake, you will reach Dzongla village.
  9. Trek to Gorakshep The easy downhill and uphill walk will leads you to Lobuche, following with Gorakshep through the rocky terrain. You can catch great views of the Everest, Nuptse and Pumori, along with Khumbu Glacier, on the way. After a brief walk, you will reach Gorekshep.
  10. Trek to Everest Base Camp Today is the special day. You’re approaching the base camp, therefore, there are many anxieties and surprises. A tough ascent from Gorakshep will take you to Everest Base Camp. The day will be the most challenging. You can spend some time exploring the iconic base camp and the surrounding areas, and return to Gorakshep for the night.
  11. Early Morning hike to Kala Patthar & Back to Lobuche Kala Patthar is the landmark of the Everest. You will start especially early. The reason behind leaving early is to reach Kala Patthar before sunrise. It provides the most wonderful sights of the surrounding along with the Mount Everest. It will take a couple of hours to reach Kala Patthar from Gorak Shep and couple more to reach the Lobuche.
  12. Trek to Chhukung via Kongma La Pass Your day will start with a hike through the Khumbu glacier towards eastern section of Khumbu. After crossing the glacier, a river, and a small climb, you will reach Kongma La Pass. It’s the highest pass on the trek. After strenuous climb towards the top, the trail drops down towards the Chukung valley.
  13. Trek to Tengboche You will pass through Dingboche. The trail leads through the vast forest of pine and rhododendron, before arriving at Tengboche. The Tengboche monastery is the highlight of this trek. Built more than 100 years ago, locals consider it an important place for homage. You can enter the premise and witness the monks and their lifestyle in person. If you visit the place in autumn, you might even get to celebrate the local festival of Mani Rimdu. The surrounding views from here are siply beautiful. You get a glimpse of Ama Dablam, Everest and other surrounding mountains.
  14. Trek to Namche Bazaar From Tengboche, you head back down the same trail towards Namche Bazaar. Even though, you don’t reach the base camp, the magnificent view of Everest will be visible through the journey. You spend the night at the Namche along with other trekkers.
  15. Trek to Lukla Lukla will be the final stop of your trek. A final leg of the trip, you might overcome with mixed feelings. It’s a day to throw a small party. The evening and the night will be marked with celebrations that will include a lot of singing and dancing. You will spend the night at Lukla and fly out early morning.
  16. Fly back to Kathmandu You can take the earliest possible flight back to Kathmandu. One of our representative will transfer you to your hotel. Later the evening, we will treat you with a complimentary dinner, a set of exquisite Nepalese cuisines.
